Die D650A1 Bulldog ist der zivile Ableger der M1030M1, im Volksmund auch Diesel-KLR genannt. Auch ihr Fahrwerk basiert auf dem der Kawasaki KLR 650 in dem der an der britischen Cranfield Universität von Stuart McGuigan entwickelte Einzylinder-Diesel seine Arbeit verrichtet.
Die Verfügbarkeit der D650A1 wurde zuerst für März 2006 angekündigt. Anfang Oktober 2005 liegt das Datenblatt für die D650E1 getaufte Version für Europa vor. Die Maschine soll 28 PS haben, ein Drehmoment von 44 Nm entwickeln, 172 kg wiegen und 2.3l auf 100km verbrauchen.

Hunde die bellen, beißen aber bekanntlich nicht. Am 27 Juni 2006 vermeldet HDT per Newsletter folgendes:

Commercial release of the Diesel Fueled D650-A1LE Bulldog HAS BEEN DELAYED To all: As most of you already know, HDT has had to delay production of the commercial D650 Bulldog due to recently increased orders for our military models. During the last 6 months, in anticipation of our commercial model release, we have greatly increased production capacity with the completion of our engine and motorcycle assembly lines. Unfortunately, for our commercial customers, the expansion is now needed to fill our ongoing military requirements. We maintain plans to produce our commercial diesel motorcycle, the D650 Bulldog, and are increasing our production capabilities as fast as we can.

Ungeborene Kinder kann man noch einfach umbenennen. So bezeichnet HDT die zivile Variante als MD670F. Die technischen Daten werden im Augenblick mit 667 cmsup3; und 35 PS beziffert.
